International Topper World Championships 2020 - cancelled

Firstly, we do hope that you and your family are all staying well whilst we all face the challenges of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Over the last weeks and days, we have been carefully monitoring the developing situation in Northern Italy in the hope that it would be resolved before July. However, conditions do not seem to be improving quickly enough to make running the International Topper Class World Championships an option. As a result, it is with great sadness that we are obliged to announce the cancellation of the 2020 event at Fraglia della Vela Riva.

We know that this will be a great disappointment to you, as it is to us. We have held off making this difficult decision for a few weeks but feel that we can delay no longer as the virus continues to spread around the world. Your safety and wellbeing, and that of your family, must be our greatest concern. Entry fees will be refunded in full to all those who have previously entered without any deduction for administration, and will be returned later this week.

As you know, ITCA World has little income to sustain itself apart from the organisation of the annual World Championships. It is run by volunteers and our two part time Secretaries. It is therefore a heavy financial setback to the class. We will obviously continue do our best to run the International Class over the coming months and build towards a wonderful World Championships that we can now confirm will be held at the Royal Cork Yacht Club, Ireland, from July 24th to 30th 2021. It will be great to meet up again with all of our friends from around the world, in what will be a fantastic festival of Topper racing in Ireland, with the UK Nationals scheduled to follow immediately on at Ballyholme Yacht Club on August 2nd to 6th.

We can also now also confirm the exciting news that we have managed to re-book the Fraglia della Vela Riva venue for the International Topper World Championship in 2022, which will be held from the 23rd-29th July, so you will still have an opportunity to race on Lake Garda in better times!
